How a prescription works in Nevada.

You don’t have to leave Nevada to start. Because tirzepatide isn't a controlled substance, a Nevada-licensed prescriber can evaluate you by telehealth and send the script to a pharmacy near you, or you can see one of the 36 local providers below in person. What you pay depends on your plan, not your zip code.

Telehealth
Available in Nevada
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a GLP-1, not a controlled substance, so a Nevada-licensed clinician can assess you and prescribe over video, with no federal in-person-visit requirement.
Who can prescribe
NV-licensed clinicians
Any physician, nurse practitioner, or PA licensed in Nevada can prescribe Mounjaro. The 36 providers below are checked against the NPI registry and the Nevada board.
Medicaid (weight loss)
Diabetes only
As of April 2026, Nevada Medicaid covers GLP-1s for diabetes but not for weight loss. Employer and private plans can still cover them; that is a plan-design choice, not a state rule.

Medicaid status above is for weight-loss use and was compiled April 2026 from KFF and public Medicaid trackers; only 13 states cover it and several are mid-change, so confirm Nevada’s current Medicaid and plan rules before booking. GLPHelper provides information and provider matching, not medical or coverage advice.

§ 04Medication factsheet
cited · last review 2026.05.19

An injectable medication for chronic weight management in adults. Same molecule as Ozempic, higher dose.

Mounjaro is the brand name Eli Lilly uses for tirzepatide approved for type 2 diabetes. It is a once-weekly subcutaneous injection and the first approved dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist. It activates two gut-hormone pathways rather than one. The identical molecule, marketed as Zepbound, is the FDA-approved formulation for chronic weight management.[2][3]

In the SURPASS-2 head-to-head trial, tirzepatide produced greater HbA1c reductions and greater weight loss than semaglutide 1 mg across all doses. Across the SURPASS program, tirzepatide lowered HbA1c by approximately 1.8 to 2.6 percentage points. Mounjaro is approved as an adjunct to diet and exercise for glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes.[1]

What the trials actually showed.

We summarize the SURPASS diabetes program, including the SURPASS-2 head-to-head against semaglutide. Figures are means at each trial's primary endpoint.

Across the SURPASS program, tirzepatide reduced HbA1c by approximately 1.8 to 2.6 percentage points and produced substantial weight loss, outperforming insulin and GLP-1 comparators. Mounjaro is approved as an adjunct to diet and exercise for glycemic control in adults with T2D.[4]

§ 07Safety & adverse events
from FDA label, sect. 6.1

Most side effects are gastrointestinal and resolve within weeks.

The most common adverse events in STEP trials were nausea (44%), diarrhea (30%), and vomiting (24%), more frequent at the 2.4 mg dose than at Ozempic doses, but typically transient.[1] Serious events were rare but include pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, and an FDA boxed warning regarding thyroid C-cell tumors based on rodent data.[8]

Boxed warning. Boxed warning: risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. Contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN-2).

Mounjaro and Zepbound are both tirzepatide, made by Eli Lilly, but they carry different FDA-approved indications. Mounjaro is approved for type 2 diabetes; Zepbound is approved for chronic weight management. Insurers treat them as separate products, and coverage differs sharply between the two.[1]
